Mexico City, Mexico – Governor Phil Murphy, First Lady Tammy Murphy, the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the New Jersey delegation continued Choose New Jersey’s Governor-led economic mission in Mexico City today. The final days of the mission focused on creating opportunities for investment in the financial services sector and exploring synergies between Mexico and New Jersey as host destinations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup™.

Governor Murphy Attends Roundtable with Yaax Capital and Mexican Venture Capitalists to Discuss New Jersey Business Expansion

Governor Murphy, First Lady Tammy Murphy, and the New Jersey Delegation met with companies currently exploring business expansion in New Jersey. This included Yaax Capital, a multi-stage venture capital firm based in Mexico City, as well as other leaders of venture capitalist firms interested in learning about New Jersey’s unparalleled access to global financial markets. The roundtable provided business leaders with more insight into the benefits of expanding to New Jersey, while fostering connections to encourage future collaboration.
Governor Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy Meet with FIFA and Clara Brugada, Head of Government of Mexico City

Governor Murphy, First Lady Tammy Murphy, and the New Jersey delegation met with FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™, the finals of which will be held in New Jersey. There, they discussed the cultural and economic contributions of the Mexican diaspora in New Jersey and met with Gabriela Cuevas Barron, Mexico’s Representative for the 2026 FIFA World Cup™. The Head of Government of Mexico City Clara Brugada Molina, President of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) Francisco Alberto Cervantes Díaz, and Secretary of Tourism in Mexico City Alejandra Frausto Guerrero were also in attendance.
Governor Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy Visit Templo Mayor (Great Temple of the Aztecs)
Governor Murphy, First Lady Tammy Murphy, and the New Jersey delegation visited Templo Mayor, the Great Temple of the Aztecs. Officially known as the Templo Mayor de Tenochtitlán and situated in the heart of Mexico City, the site served as the primary ceremonial center of the ancient Mexica (Aztec) people. The site was buried for centuries after the Spanish conquest. Rediscovered in 1978, Templo Mayor is now one of the world’s largest archaeological sites.
