Bengaluru, India – Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way, the New Jersey-India Commission, and the New Jersey delegation arrived in India this week, kicking off the inaugural New Jersey-India Commission economic mission. The nine-day trip will strengthen economic ties with India through the establishment of new partnerships to promote bilateral growth in life sciences and technology. The delegation spent Tuesday and Wednesday in the capital of Karnataka, Bengaluru, an international technology hub.

The New Jersey-India Commission met with representatives from C-CAMP, an initiative of the Government of India’s Department of Biotechnology, and toured the bio-incubation labs and the startup and medtech facilities. CEO and Director of C-CAMP, Dr. Taslimarif Saiyed, and President & CEO of Choose New Jersey, Wes Mathews, gave remarks. The engagement focused on exploring potential synergies in biotechnology and innovation given New Jersey’s vibrant biotech sector. The group explored several collaborative options, including joint research projects, innovation exchange programs, bilateral incubation possibilities, and funding opportunities that support cross-border partnerships for start-ups.

The New Jersey-India Commission had the privilege of touring Wipro’s global headquarters in Bengaluru, India. Wipro, whose Americas Headquarters is based in East Brunswick, New Jersey, reaffirmed its dedication to the region with a significant renovation and inauguration of the facility in March 2023. This commitment aligns with Wipro’s strong presence in the Americas, which accounts for nearly 60% of the company’s global revenues. The tour highlighted Wipro’s cutting-edge tech campus and innovative initiatives, and discussions included exciting plans for the company’s continued growth in New Jersey.

Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way and the New Jersey-India Commission attended the TiE Global Summit at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), where Lieutenant Governor Way delivered a keynote speech on New Jersey and India’s shared priority in fostering a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem. “This partnership reflects and builds upon the longstanding economic and cultural relationship between New Jersey and India, strengthened by shared economic goals and deep cultural roots,” said Lieutenant Governor Way. Following the remarks, the Lieutenant Governor signed a Letter of Intent with the Secretary of the Government of Karnataka Department of Electronics, IT, Bt, and Science and Technology. This Letter of Intent aligns with New Jersey’s goal of driving innovation within its technology industry by connecting resources in industry, academia, and government.
