Merck and PSEG among top ten of ‘most responsible’ companies in country

Merck and PSEG were among the ten most responsible companies in the country, according to the annual list created by Newsweek that aims to determine the most socially conscious businesses in the country.
Merck (Rahway) ranked No. 7 in the country; PSEG (Newark) ranked No. 9. Organon (Jersey City) was the only other N.J. company to place in the Top 100 (at No. 97).
Six other companies made the Top 250. The list:
- 7: Merck (Rahway)
- 9: PSEG (Newark)
- 97: Organon (Jersey City)
- 102: Cognizant (Teaneck)
- 142: Church & Dwight (Ewing)
- 144: Burlington (Burlington)
- 177: American Water (Camden)
- 190: Kenvue (Summit)
- 217: Zoetis (Parsippany)
Newsweek partnered with Statista for the seventh time to present the list.
According to Newsweek, the ranking is built on an evaluation of company CSR/ESG or sustainability reports, financial reports, history of lawsuits and 2024 top polluter indexes from the Political Economy Research Institute.
Additionally, over 30 KPIs were researched from the three areas of ESG — environmental, social and governance performance. NVIDIA (Santa Clara, California) was ranked No. 1.
