Summary
In advance of the FIFA World Cup 2026™, this initiative will deploy up to $2 million to support smaller-scale, high-impact events across New Jersey. The program will fund regional fairs, community festivals, cultural celebrations, and public watch parties designed to ensure that the economic and cultural benefits of the tournament extend beyond stadium host communities and into municipalities statewide in accordance with Event Grant Guidelines.
Grants will be awarded directly to eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and government entities hosting events. Where appropriate, applicants are encouraged to coordinate with Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs), local chambers of commerce, county officials, and tourism-focused partners to maximize attendance, visitor spending, and local business participation.
Funding caps per event will be structured to ensure broad geographic distribution of resources while taking into account projected attendance, economic impact, and demonstrated need. Awards will be scalable and leveraged with additional funding sources (municipal, county, corporate sponsorship, or private philanthropy) to strengthen sustainability and execution capacity.
Priority consideration will be given to events that:
- Reflect the cultural diversity represented in the World Cup
- Promote immigrant and multicultural communities
- Activate and elevate local small businesses (food vendors, merchandise sellers, service providers)
- Offset participation costs for small businesses, including permits, booth fees, utilities, and related expenses
- Demonstrate measurable economic impact, including jobs supported, local tax revenue, parking revenue, and tourism lift
This initiative ensures that the excitement and opportunity surrounding the FIFA World Cup 2026™ translates into inclusive, statewide economic and community benefit.
