Governor Phil Murphy, First Lady Tammy Murphy, and the New Jersey delegation attended a roundtable meeting with the Mexican Association of State Offices of International Affairs (AMAIE) to deepen commercial ties and foster collaboration and opportunities in key sectors. More than 30 leaders from Mexican states and municipalities were in attendance, including Paloma Palacios González, National President of the Mexican Association of State Offices for International Affairs, and Mauricio Kuri González, Governor of the State of Queretaro. Luis De La Hoz, Chairman of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey, provided remarks.

Governor Murphy met with Juan Ramón de la Fuente, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss international commerce and strengthen the bilateral trade relationship between New Jersey and Mexico. The meeting reflected a shared commitment to supporting the Mexican-American community in New Jersey, which makes a substantial contribution to the state’s economy, culture, and workforce.

During the meeting, Governor Murphy witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development and the Consulate of Mexico in New Brunswick to protect workers’ rights. This agreement reflects a joint commitment to strengthen workers’ rights in New Jersey, with an emphasis on labor laws, worker safety, and communicating training and education information to Mexican workers throughout the state.

Through the agreement, the institutions will promote collaboration in student, academic, and administrative exchanges, study abroad programs, and joint research initiatives.
