Zeem Solutions unveiled plans in June 2024 for a cutting-edge electric truck charging depot near Port Newark, a project supported by Choose New Jersey. This state-of-the-art facility, part of Zeem’s ambitious “Port 500” initiative, will provide charging and parking for up to 500 electric trucks, addressing the growing demand for zero-emission freight and drayage solutions. Strategically located near one of the busiest ports on the East Coast, the depot is designed to support the transition to electric Class 8 trucks, reducing reliance on diesel-powered vehicles and cutting harmful emissions. By offering reliable charging infrastructure, Zeem is helping fleet operators meet stricter environmental regulations while enhancing the efficiency of goods movement in the region.
The project is backed by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s (NJEDA) NJ ZIP program, a voucher-based initiative designed to make clean transportation more accessible for businesses, as well as key partners like PSEG. With New Jersey leading the way in clean energy investments, this initiative not only advances transportation electrification but also plays a crucial role in improving air quality, particularly in overburdened communities near the port. By reducing emissions and fostering the adoption of sustainable technologies, the “Port 500” initiative aligns with the state’s broader goals of economic growth, environmental justice, and energy resilience. The project underscores New Jersey’s commitment to building a greener, more sustainable future while strengthening its position as a national leader in clean energy innovation.
