New Delhi, India – Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way, the New Jersey-India Commission, and the New Jersey delegation concluded the inaugural New Jersey-India Commission economic mission in the Indian capital of New Delhi. On Sunday, December 16, the delegation visited renowned cultural sites to experience India’s rich heritage, architectural brilliance, and religious significance. On Monday, December 17, the delegation’s final day in India, Lieutenant Governor Way met with U.S. Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti, reinforcing the strong ties between the United States and India. The day also included the announcement of a new academic partnership further strengthening opportunities in research and technology between India and New Jersey, and participation in the South Asia Women in Energy (SAWIE) Annual Leadership Summit, an event designed to empower women in the energy sector across South Asia.

Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way and the New Jersey delegation visited Jama Masjid, located in the heart of Shahjahanabad (modern-day Old Delhi). The grand mosque, one of the largest in India, is an iconic symbol of Mughal architecture, showcasing a harmonious blend of Persian, Timurid, and Indian styles. Built primarily of red sandstone and marble, the mosque features intricate carvings, expansive courtyards, and towering minarets.

Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way Signs Memorandum of Understanding with The Confederation of Indian Industry and Rowan University, Strengthening Opportunities for Technological Research

Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the New Jersey Department of State, The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and Rowan University to create a strong link between the global technology centers of India and New Jersey to advance research, development, and innovation in emerging technologies.

The event brought together prominent leaders from industries such as life sciences, technology, logistics, education, and tourism. Mr. Rikant Pice, Vice Chair of CII Delhi State, delivered the welcome address, followed by remarks from Mr. Rahul Sharma, Managing Director of India for USIBC. Robert Bullard, Associate Vice President for External Engagement & Economic Engagement at Rowan University, emphasized Rowan’s commitment to driving innovation and workforce development through global partnerships. Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way underscored the significance of this collaboration in strengthening New Jersey’s position as a hub for technological advancement.
