NJCU Launches Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security
May 11, 2020NJCU launches the Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security program providing students the knowledge, skills, and training to pursue careers in the rapidly growing field of Cyber Security. The program offers a balance between the theoretical and deep technical skills of Cyber Security. The program is suitable for students who have received an Associate’s degree in Business, Homeland Security, Criminal Justice, Computer Science or a related major and have a desire to join the Cyber Security workforce or conduct Cyber Security research.
The program prepares our graduates to face the futuristic security-related challenges emerging from our internet-connected world, the rapid adoption of mobile devices, and the ever-increasing role of software applications in our daily life.
“NJCU’s Cyber Security program is specifically geared towards those students wanting practitioner-based knowledge, skills and abilities,” stated Dr. Kutub Thakur. This unique NJCU approach enables students to interact with security and non-security professionals in auditing security systems, setting up firewalls, analyzing networks, and identifying data breaches, whereas computer science focused programs develop professionals focusing more on building new features in web development, software and databases.
The New Jersey City University Center for Cyber Security is an interdisciplinary center for education, training and research. The center aims to provide current and future professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to compete and excel within the cyber security community. Our students’ foundation is built through their degree program, certificates and research opportunities.
“This addition to the College of Professional Studies further positions the Professional Security Studies department as a leader in the state and region,” stated Dr. Michael Edmondson, Interim Dean, College of Professional Studies.
NJCU’s Cyber Defense program has been named a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE) by the National Security Agency (NSA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
